After a lot of speculations about rainfall, the match finally started, much to the delight of the viewers on the ground & the millions of people watching on Television.

Chennai captiain M.S. Dhoni won the toss and elected to field first, putting Mumbai Indians to bat. The decision to field first was looking good in the mid of the innings where Chennai Super Kings managed to get few wickets of the Mumbai Indians.

But Indians' Skipper Sachin Tendulkar had other ideas, where the wickets of the Mumbai Indians kept falling, Skipper Sachin Tendulkar kept making runs at the other end, latter in the innings he got a good partnership going with Abhishek Nayyar to help Indians reach a respectable total of 165 for 7 in 20 overs. Chennai Super Kings started off poorly, when they lost the first wicket in the second ball itself to Lasith Malinga's bowling, and Suresh Raina was the next batsmen to go. Andrew Flintoff, IPL second season's most expensive player, was looking good as he hit a few fours and a six, but could'nt make much of an impact as Harbhajan singh took his catch off his own bowling, dismissing Flintoff at 24(23).

After Andrew Flintoff went, Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was looking good at the crease and tried hard to revive the Super Kings innings, but he did not get much support from the lower order batsmen as they kept falling.
