A massive earthquake of
a magnitude of 8.8 hit Chile on Friday 27 Feb,2010,
and caused huge damage to the nation.

Over 500 times more powerful than the Haitian earthquake
last month, it has sent strong aftershocks throughout the region.
An estimated 2 million homes are reported to
have been reduced down to rubble and approxiamtely
795 people are reported to have died due to the
devastating earthquake.
Normal life has been disturbed majorly, the electricity,
water supply & telephone services have been affected.
Michelle Bachelet, th outgoing Chilean president, declared a
"state of catastrophe" in central Chile.
The national emergency office which estimated the damages
also said the quake spread 1,600 kilometers across Chile.
The devastating quake triggered off a Tsunami warning
for the nearby Pacific nations.
The relief operations are in process.
